Do the color of vibrant feathers and graceful flights mesmerize you? One of nature’s wonder are birds, do they fascinate you and make you want to help conserve them? If so, then take part in the annual Great Backyard Bird Count.

This is an effort by all of us to count the birds across the United States and Canada in four days. The information collected will be an efficient source of data for scientists tracking birds.

What do you have to do?

• Plan to count birds for at least 15 minutes during the four days. Count birds at as many places and on as many days as you like-just keep a separate list of counts for each day and/or location.
• Count the greatest number of individuals of each species that you see together at any one time, and write it down. If you have difficulty identifying them check the website for tips.
• Enter your results on the official website.
• You can also enter good photographs of the same.

This will not only help to make the statistics you will also be able to win prizes. Prizes include 8×42 Votex Sidewinder binoculars, One-year membership in the National Audubon Society, Pale Male DVD and Featured Audubon Magazine.
In addition, there remains no age bar. It can become a great family activity involving kids and parents. Get set to become an amateur bird watcher, celebrate birds in your backyard!
