A German research group called EcoAndina has put together ’solar towns’ in the northern parts of the country. The region is Puna a plateau in the north-west of Argentina. This extremely poor region has been developed by means of ecologically lasting development.

• For the construction of the houses, only local materials of the immediate vicinity were used.
• Electricity is generated by solar energy and wind power.
• The usage of solar powered oven for cooking, Solar Cookers help to save firewood.

From a travel perspective the region is a first hand example of sustainable development and agro tourism. The free solar energy has changed the lives of these people and the tourism industry is helping them further.
