Once the Thames of ‘Great Stink’ has emerged as a habitat to more than 100 species of sea animals today. Cleaner water is encouraging grey seals, dolphins, whales and porpoises to come up into the river and have become a common sight for the public around Tower Bridge and Westminster.
Centuries of hard work is finally paying off.
Experts are excited about the growing number as it could be of significant importance to the marine ecology of Britain.
But news of porpoises being hit by boat or fish getting stuck in the propellers has also become common. Only last year a bottle nosed whale got hurt and died.
