Since long Methane and oil have seeped from beds buried below the ocean sediment off the California coast. Methane then adds up to form the green house gases but studies show that it is global warming itself that causes the seeps.
They are a result of rising ocean temperatures. Tessa Hill of the University of California says
“These findings indicate that petroleum seeps are ‘activated’ during time periods of warming, and increase their seepage of methane and oil,”
Another reason in the long list to try and reduce global warming.
